I sent this to your contact link also:
A brand new version of St. James Infirmary has turned up by The Gutter Twins’ new EP, “ADORATA” featuring a fantastic vocal by the ubiquitous Mark Lanegan. Very cool version.
A recent noteworthy song is Michael Hurley’s “Dying Crapshooter’s Blues”, from his recent full length, Ancestral Swamp. It’s a beautiful, sparse take on (presumably) McTell’s version.
#29 seems to be missing.
thanks for this!
it was a duplicate that i caught after i finished.
the white Stripes covered it too.
I’m confused. Is this the same or not as the earlier one we got? I guess not, since the Roy King on your list here wasn’t in the collection I downloaded before. Oh well …
Maybe I missed it-but my favorite version is missing: Jimmy Rushing from the alb. Gee, Baby, Ain’t I Good to You
Another not to miss: Geordie “Goin’ Down (to St. James Infirmary)”. Brian Johnson before he was in AC/DC!
Blind Willie McTell recorded “Dying Crapshooter Blues” three times. What’s the date of this recording?
Thanks!
Sure came late to the party, but if it’s not too late – or if I haven’t overlooked it here – I’d like to donate John A. & Alan Lomax’s ‘34 recording of Ironhead Baker doing his “Dying Cowboy” / “St. James Infirmary” version as “St. James Hospital.”
Thank you so much! One more version that I think I did not see is the one by The Dead Brothers, on their album “Dead Music for Dead People”.
Correction: “Day of the Dead” is the album.
two women who met on youtube do a very cool Dying Crap Shooter/Saint James Infirmary

thanks for the post!
I was suprised by #18 which seems not to be more than a a copy of #9. It is rather odd for a well known band, according to wikipedia!
There’s also a version I didn’t see here or in the first set, done by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
It’s track 8 on disc 2 of Doctors, Professors, Kings, and Queens: The Big Ol’ Box of New Orleans (Shout! Factory). (Which is a great CD set, by the way, though otherwise not really related to this website.)
Also, thank you thank you thank you for compiling and posting all of these! And for running this blog. It’s fantastic.
There’s an ecellent version of this by Scottish band, PapaMojo on their latest album, Broke ‘n’ Hungry.

Josh White did an excellent parody of this song, called the Free & Equal Blues. Contact me, and I’ll send it to you if you don’t already have it.
