Thank you so much. I had a few Arizona Dranes tracks from the wonderful Goodbye Babylon set, but now I feel, uh-huh, i feel… satisfied.

BTW, Neil Young said in an interview that he hardly ever sits down to listen to music, but Bob Dylan sent him the Goodbye Babylon set, and he’s hooked on old gospel.

Me too. So thanks for the great Arizona Dranes.

Love the Arizona Dranes. I’d only heard God’s Got a Crown before on “The Beauty of the Blues,” and now I’m sorry I didn’t hunt more down sooner!

On another note, PBS in my market (Chicago) had a 1/2 hour special on DeFord Bailey tonight (Sunday). It’s called DeFord Bailey: A Legend Lost. They had some nice clips of Black String Bands, discussion of the effect of separation of country/hillbilly music from “race” music through the late 1930s and 1940s, the role of African-American performers as mentors of the Carter Family and Bill Monroe, and the amazing info that DeFord Bailey is the only founding performer of the Grand ‘Ole Opry who has NOT been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

I know you posted once on him before, any chance of another? I’m now officially intrigued.

Best wishes,
Kate

What a wonderful gift. Thanks very much for liberating this beautiful music from the grips of the speculators!

Now, if you have any Gladys Bentley you’d care to share I’ll consider your incredible blog one of my official reasons for waking up in the morning.

Slow Wednesday?…

You might liven it up with Arizona Dranes and her version of “John Said He Saw a Number”. For more, visit Honey, where you been so long? …and more, and still more. All of this via WFMU, of course…….
