I think Willie Brown also recorded as Kid Bailey. Compare anything you find by Kid Bailey to Willie Brown and post what you find.

I doubt the Bailey-was-Brown debate will ever be settled, but I don’t think they’re the same guy. Brown’s voice on the 1930 recordings sounds to me like that of an significantly older man than Bailey’s 1929 sides. But they do sound awfully alike.

I can easily believe that’s Brown’s guitar behind Bailey’s on Rowdy Blues.

As for Brown, The Calt/Wardlow camp insists there were at least two different Willie Browns associated with the Dockery/Drew group of musicians in the ’20s and ’30s. The descriptions of Brown(s) left by his contemporaries certainly describe two different guys.

But I just can’t see how the Brown associated with Son House could be a different guy than the one appearing on Patton’s records. Even through his alcoholism, House was a reliable informant when interviewed in the ’60s, and I don’t think he would have conflated the memory of two guys into one. He was very, very close to the Willie Brown with whom he played and recorded, and probably would have thought to mention it if there was another guy with the same name who played with Patton.

I can easily say that “Make me a Pallet on the floor” is one of my most favourite blues tracks. I downloaded it from here sometime alst year and I still can’t stop listening to it.

Pleeease, baby pleeease fix the “Make Me a Pallet on the Floor” link. It ain’t Willie Brown, I tell ya, it’s some floozy with a band! I’ve been rollin’ and tumblin’ around and i can’t find the song anywhere else. Such a tease haha.
