Today’s tracks come from Indiana where Herve Duerson recorded his only session way back in 1929. Turner Perrish also recorded his famous “Trenches” during this session - and they would both back Teddy Moss during the session. Duerson is a pretty unknown piano player - which is sad because his style is totally unique to my ears - his fingers seemed to just tap and bang against the piano keys - rather than the smooth motions of the Boogie Woogie players. The first track - Avenue Strut is a perfect example of that style of playing. The second track Ocean Wave Blues features Teddy Moss at his best - with some really wonderful lyrics that expanded on blues ocean symbolism

I’m surprised you’re only now getting spam comments. I had to turn on the captchas on my site; I gave up after just a few days of getting 20+ spam a day (which is nothing compared to what some sites got).
You know who Herve Duerson reminds me of? Chico Marx on piano. Seriously. I wonder if their paths intersected at all when the Marx Bros. were in vaudeville.
Yea, before like a few days I had only gotten a handful of spam comments. Now according to my spam comment blocker thing I’ve gotten 24 in two days. bleh.
You are right on the money about Chico Marx, also. I wonder if Duerson was ever on the vaudeville circut or if this style was popular among vaudeville piano players.
If you like Herve Duerson, you might also like Blind Leroy Garnett, Bob Call and Bert M. Mays. They share the same broad orchestral sound, with elements of blues, boogie woogie and ragtime.
