I just hope that I can find some cute stuff locally, but bleh. Next week should features some really fun blues Christmas songs, its going to be a lot of fun.

The Geraldine Fibbers were one of the more rockin' late 90s alt country bands. Featuring the ever wonderful Carla Bozulich (who recently covered Willie Nelson's Red Headed Stranger album) as lead singer, and would later add her hubby Nels Cline on guitar, they recorded some of the most experimental and rough alt country songs I've heard. This track is a cover of Bobbie Gentry's Fancy, and it's just really wonderful. Bozulich does a good job emulating the patterns of Gentry's voice, maybe too good of job? The overall sound of the song is very much the Fibbers, but her voice never moves away from the orginal, though I can't decide what I'd rather have.
